How We Verify

Every brand-specific step on this site comes from the maker’s own manual or support page, which we read and link. Each step shows the date we last checked it. If we cannot find a step in an official source, we leave it out rather than guess, and we list the gap publicly.

Last updated

Sources we accept

  • User guides and online manuals published by the printer maker (for example files.support.epson.com, ij.manual.canon, support.brother.com, hp.com manual PDFs).
  • The maker’s own support articles and FAQs.
  • For computer steps: Microsoft, Apple, Google, Mozilla, OpenPrinting/CUPS and GNOME documentation.

We do not use forum posts, videos, reseller pages or other test page sites as sources for procedures.

How a procedure gets on the site

  1. We find the official page for the model family and read the steps.
  2. We rewrite the steps briefly in plain English, keeping button and menu names exactly as the manual prints them.
  3. We record the source URL, its title and the date we checked it. All three appear next to the steps.
  4. Build checks reject any procedure without a source URL and a last-checked date.
  5. AI tools help us find and summarize official pages and draft copy. A step is published only after its wording has been checked against the source page linked next to it.

Open gaps are steps we looked for but could not confirm. Each brand page lists them under “Not yet verified”.

Re-checking

Manufacturers move and update their manuals. We re-check sources when we update a brand page and when a reader reports a problem. The last-checked date changes only when we have actually re-read the source.

General troubleshooting advice

Some advice, such as “check the paper type setting” or “horizontal white lines on an inkjet usually mean clogged nozzles”, is general printer knowledge rather than a brand procedure. We keep it hedged, point to the maker’s manual for the final word, and never present it as an official instruction.

Corrections policy

If you find a mistake, email support@onlineprintertestpage.com with the page and, if possible, the official source. We check reports against the source, fix confirmed errors and update the last-checked date. Significant corrections are noted on the page that changed.
